Joan strategy

Go to Roof of the Tower in Paris Streets to challenge Joan. The rush may be followed by more pursuing slashes; after the jumping slam, avoid the impact and burning ground first, then counterattack.

Watch the wind-up first, then choose your response; the steps below are not a fixed attack sequence.

Detailed steps

  1. Go to Roof of the Tower in Paris Streets. You do not need to obtain Medusa’s Petrifying Gaze first to claim this battle’s rewards.

    Joan strategy
  2. Ground cycle: The lunge still has a follow-up slash and a turning slash afterward

Attacks: A mid-range slash can branch into a spin, turn, or lunge. After a long-range lunge, a follow-up slash triggers if Rose is still within the area in front; after the follow-up slash, the turn and empowered-attack branches are still checked.

How to dodge: After moving out of the lunge’s path, keep watching for sword raises and turns. Do not wait in front of her to counterattack or assume the whole sequence is over just because you moved behind her. Keep room for one retreat, and avoid drinking a potion after the first slash.

When to counter: Approach for brief attacks only after the follow-up slash, turn, or empowered follow-up has actually ended. Stop attacking as soon as she raises her sword again. Stop attacking based on the actual moves in this cycle, rather than forcing your turn after a fixed two or three slashes.

  3. Fire cycle: The jumping slam has a lateral impact and leaves lingering burning ground

Attacks: A jump is followed by a downward slam; the landing attack extends laterally to both sides of the body and creates burning ground. Another branch sends flames flying before they form fire pillars. Moving out from directly beneath the body alone may still leave you in range of the landing impact.

How to dodge: When you see the jump begin, first increase your distance from the landing point and leave extra clearance for the landing impact; do not wait right at the edge of the landing point for her to come down. After flames appear, first find a spot that is not burning, then consider approaching.

When to counter: Use brief attacks when the slam’s impact has ended and there is a safe path outside the burning ground; avoid her protected state during the downward slam; do not immediately move in for follow-up hits as she lands. For the fire-pillar branch, also wait for the path through the flames to open first.

  4. Empowered state: Extended slashes

Attacks: Empowered high and low attacks, plus empowered long-range slash combos. Empowered moves do not alternate after a fixed number of uses.

How to dodge: Keep your distance from both low and long-range openers. After dodging the first part, keep watching for follow-ups; do not immediately stop to cast.

When to counter: Attack briefly when the final swing misses and the flames no longer block the path. Better to skip an attack round than leave no room for the next rush.

  5. After the battle, absorb the reward orb to receive Infernal Pyre and The Warrior's Key; then open the weapon chest that appears to obtain Burnt Sword of Fierbois. Fighting Joan or Medusa first changes the closing dialogue; neither is a prerequisite for claiming the other’s rewards.
