First defeat Talos at Throne of the Builder, then collect Smash at the tutorial location in Clock Tower. Defeating Talos alone is not enough.

Phase one
Preparation: Learn Smash first
Moves and states
You obtain Fist of Talos after the Talos battle. Smash must still be collected separately at the tutorial point in Clock Tower.
Dodging and handling
Before leaving Clock Tower, confirm that you have learned the skill, then go to Brauner's Atelier to avoid returning with only Fist of Talos.
Counterattacking and advancing
Use the relevant guides and maps to reach the Smash tutorial point, then return to the studio after completing the tutorial.
Phase two
Studio: Destroy the statue
Moves and states
Progress here is through the statue and the story; there is no regular boss battle requiring you to empty a health bar.
Dodging and handling
Position yourself above the target statue, check the landing point below, then use Smash.
Counterattacking and advancing
After Smash destroys the statue and triggers the story, stop attacking repeatedly and wait for the reward sequence.
Phase three
Reward: Absorb the light orb
Moves and states
After the story sequence, you can obtain Aerial Rush and Masterpiece.
Dodging and handling
Wait for the story sequence to end before interacting with the light orb. Brauner's Paintbrush is a different item in a chest in Library.
Counterattacking and advancing
Confirm that both abilities have been obtained before continuing to explore.
