The laboratory-equipment and obelisk-research quests investigate Loraine’s research. Her actual rescue is in “Land Of The Sky Islands”. At Cinder’s Ascent, find the lost soul before treating the inactive platform as a usable route.
Rescue steps
Step 1
Reach The Ancient Gate The Flame has instructed you to apprehend the great evil which it senses is approaching. To face this adversary, you must enter the cradle of the Ancients. The ideal entry point, an Ancient gate, is marked on your map. Reach the Ancient gate to proceed.
Step 2
Reach The Heart Of Cinders You've reached the gate and are now able to proceed into the land of the Ancients. The Flame mentioned a "heart of cinders", presumably a central point of great significance. Reach the centre of the Ancient kingdom to proceed.
Step 3
Look Around Cinder's Ascent You've reached a platform in the midst of Cinder's Cradle called "Cinder's Ascent". The platform seems rather empty and inactive. There must be a way to reactivate it to reach the floating isles above. Thankfully, you sense the echo of a lost soul nearby. Perhaps they could be of help. Look around Cinder's Ascent to proceed!
Step 4
Summon The Ancient Researcher And Speak To Them You've discovered the soul of an ancient researcher! Perhaps they will be able to shed light on the situation. Summon them and speak to them to plan your next moves!

If a recipe is missing
Check the recipe’s quest, previously collected ingredient and facility requirements, then gather the quantities needed now. For recipes requiring shelter, check the crafter’s shelter status. An assistant offers access to the same workshop, without bypassing unlock requirements.
After the rescue
Settling and locating the survivor
After rescue, select the survivor with the Summoning Staff and place them at your base. Return to the base where you placed them for later visits; the original vault or body location is not their permanent workshop.
What to do next
Summon Loraine and speak to her, then follow “Activate the Star Gate” through the beacon dungeons. Check that quest for the six dungeon objectives; final-boss rewards are not materials you receive just by rescuing her.
